The Optical E2000 Fiber Patch Cord is an essential component for seamless optical signal transmission. It is designed with high-quality materials to ensure optimal performance and protection.
At its core, the patch cord consists of a glass core that has a high refractive index, surrounded by a cladding with a low refractive index. This combination allows for efficient signal transmission with minimal loss, even over long distances. Additionally, the cord is reinforced with aramide threads to safeguard the core and outer sheathing from physical damage. To provide further protection, a synthetic sheathing is applied.
Applications & Functions
The primary application of the E2000 Fiber Patch Cord is in connecting optical transceivers, patch panels, and extending optical fiber connections in high-speed networks. It facilitates the interconnection of various hardware components, such as routers, servers, firewalls, load balancers, and FTTX systems, using optical ports. Whether you need to transfer data in multi-mode or single-mode, the cord is available in both duplex (two fibers) and simplex (one fiber) variants, ensuring efficient data transfer without any bandwidth limitations.
With the Optical E2000 Fiber Patch Cord, you can confidently establish reliable connections and enhance the performance of your optical network. Invest in this superior solution to unlock seamless optical communication for your business.
Types of Fibers Available for Optical E2000 Fiber Patch Cords
When it comes to Optical E2000 Fiber Patch Cords, you have options that cater to different requirements. These cords are available in two main types: Multi-mode E2000 Fiber Patch Cords and Single-mode E2000 Fiber Patch Cords. Let's explore each type and their specific characteristics.
Multi-mode E2000 Fiber Patch Cords:
Multi-mode fibers for E2000 Fiber Patch Cords are categorized into four types: OM1, OM2, OM3, and OM4. These categories are based on their modal bandwidth and are optimized for transmissions in the first optical window.
- OM1 E2000 Fiber Patch Cords: Identified by their orange sheathing, these cords have a core size of 62.5 micrometers (µm) and a modal bandwidth of 200 MHz/km at 850nm. They can transmit 10 Gigabit data links up to 33 meters, commonly used for 100 Megabit applications.
- OM2 E2000 Fiber Patch Cords: Also featuring orange sheathing, these cords have a core size of 50 micrometers (µm) and a modal bandwidth of 500 MHz/km at 850nm. They support 10 Gigabit data links up to 82 meters, typically used for gigabit applications.
- OM3 E2000 Fiber Patch Cords: Distinguished by their turquoise or aqua sheathing, OM3 cords have a core size of 50 micrometers (µm) and a modal bandwidth of 1500 MHz/km at 850nm. They support 10 Gigabit data links up to 300 meters, and 40/100 Gigabit transmissions up to 100 meters. OM3 cords are commonly used with 850nm VCSEL light sources.
- OM4 E2000 Fiber Patch Cords: These cords have turquoise or magenta-colored sheathing and are an improved version of OM3. With a modal bandwidth of 3500 MHz/km at 850nm and a core size of 50 micrometers (µm), OM4 cords support 10 Gigabit links up to 550 meters and 100 Gigabit links up to 150 meters. They are also used with 850nm VCSEL light sources.
Single-mode E2000 Fiber Patch Cords:
Single-mode E2000 Fiber Patch Cords are designed for transmissions in the second and third optical windows, between 1271nm and 1611nm. These cords utilize high-quality G.652.D OS2 fibers, offering excellent performance.
With a core size of 9/125 micrometers (µm), these cords minimize modal dispersion and maintain accurate light signals over longer distances. Single-mode G.652.D OS2 E2000 Fiber Patch Cords are the ideal choice for higher bandwidth transmissions.
By understanding the different fiber types available, you can select the Optical E2000 Fiber Patch Cord that best suits your specific needs and ensures optimal performance in your optical network setup.
Types of Fiber Connectors for E2000 Fiber Patch Cords
E2000 Fiber Patch Cords are designed to connect hardware with optical ports, offering a range of options to suit different network requirements. Here are the most commonly used fiber connectors for E2000 Fiber Patch Cords:
- SC Connector (Subscriber Connector): Developed by NTT, the SC connector was one of the first on the market. It features a square shape and uses a 2.5mm ferrule. The SC connector is a cost-effective option with a snap-in/push-pull mechanism, making it quick and easy to attach to devices or wall mounts. The SC connector conforms to the telecommunications specification TIA-568-A.
- LC Connector (Lucent Connector): Developed by Lucent Technologies, the LC connector is widely used and known for its smaller size (small form factor). It utilizes a 1.25mm pin-type ferrule and resembles an RJ45 connector. The LC connector features a practical push-and-latch mechanism, ensuring reliable patching. The LC connector conforms to the telecommunications specification TIA/EIA-604.
- ST Connector (Straight Tip): Developed by AT&T, the ST connector is one of the earliest and most popular connectors. It is commonly used in a simplex configuration with multiple fibers. The ST connector is circular in shape and has a combination of stainless metal and plastic body, along with a long 2.5mm pin-type ferrule. It features a bayonet-style twisting mechanism and is standardized under IEC 61754-2.
- E2000 Plug Connection: Also known as the LSH plug, the E2000 connector was developed by the Swiss company Diamond. It typically employs a 2.5mm ceramic ferrule with a metal insert. The E2000 connector features a lever for unlocking, similar to the LC connector. One distinguishing feature is the laser protection flap, which automatically opens when plugged in, minimizing the risk of contamination. Unlike other connector types, the E2000 connector eliminates the need for separate protective caps. The E2000 connector is also manufactured by R&M and Huber & Suhner under license from Diamond.
All these connector types can be used in both simplex and duplex configurations, and they are available for single-mode and multi-mode versions of E2000 Fiber Patch Cords, providing flexibility to meet various network needs.
Types of Polish Available for E2000 Fiber Patch Cords
E2000 Fiber Patch Cords come with different types of ferrule polish, which impact the transmission quality and attenuation of the optical connection. There are primarily three types of polish: Physical Contact (PC), Ultra-Physical Contact (UPC), and Angled Physical Contact (APC 8° angle).
- PC Polish: E2000 Fiber Patch Cords with PC polish have a minimal gap in the connection, resulting in a certain attenuation. To minimize this attenuation and improve the overall connection quality, PC polish is used. PC polish achieves a return-loss attenuation of 40dB or higher, ensuring a reliable connection.
- UPC Polish: E2000 Fiber Patch Cords with UPC polish offer even better performance than PC polish. With a more precise polish, UPC achieves a higher return-loss attenuation of 50dB or higher. This type of polish is ideal for applications where a tighter connection and improved transmission quality are required.
- APC Polish: APC polish is specifically designed for single-mode E2000 Fiber Patch Cords. It features an angled end-face, which helps to reduce reflected light and increase the return-loss attenuation. APC polish achieves a remarkable return-loss attenuation of 60dB or higher, making it suitable for highly sensitive optical connections.
In addition to the type of polish, it is essential to consider the insertion loss, which should be less than 0.3dB. Lower insertion loss signifies better performance and less signal degradation.
